MES looks back on a good year

MES Kempton Park’s GROW Programme celebrated a year filled with various successes.

This includes establishing and maintaining garden services and a recycling initiative. Currently the teams serve seven gardens a month and from January to September 32 458kg recyclable materials were sorted.

The branch established GROW in March 2015, with the objective of providing the homeless and vulnerable community of Kempton Park access to job and life rehabilitation programmes. Daily workshops and enrichment programmes are hosted, together with the provision of cash in hand job opportunities.

A team usually consists of four people, which includes a foreman. These teams are not only involved in jobs related to garden services and the sorting of recyclable materials but also cleaning services, which includes the streets of Kempton Park.

Another highlight is the computer resource centre which is now fully operational for GROW clients to prepare their CVs. Further to this, the initiative continuously prepares clients for employment at organisations outside MES.

From January to September eight permanent jobs were provided, 69 temporary jobs and one casual placement.

MES Kempton Park is currently running a special Christmas campaign and encourages everyone to join hands with them in making the festive season special for the less fortunate.

Contributions can, for example, be in the form of sponsoring a lunch or dinner, sending gifts for a specific programme or making a cash donation.
