Five suspects were arrested on charges of possession of drugs in Long and West streets, among other areas, over the weekend.
These arrests were made during the stop-and-search operations led by the Kempton Park Crime Prevention Unit together with the metro police.
“The operations are aimed at ensuring that the community of Kempton Park is safe during the festive season,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“Another suspect was arrested for allegedly stealing lights from a vehicle.”
Mtshali said the lights were found in possession of the suspect and were returned to the owner who was also present during the arrest.
Seventeen suspects were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol at the roadblocks also conducted by the Kempton Park Crime Prevention Unit and the metro police.
“The police, once again, warn the community about the withdrawal of large amounts of money at banks,” said Mtshali.
“We suspect that during this time, there are suspects who normally spot unsuspecting clients (victims) and tip-off their counterparts outside of the banks giving the description of the victim/s and later rob them of their hard-earned cash.
“We, however, advise the community to rather electronically transfer the money to the intended person or institution to avoid being robbed.
“Police also warn criminals that their days will soon be numbered during this festive season.”
