According to police reports, the man took a Toyota Corolla Quest under the pretense of test driving it. As he was driving with the salesperson towards Johannesburg, the man stopped to pick up his friend.

The armed accomplice pointed a gun at the salesperson, forcing him to get out of the car.

“EMPD highway patrolling officers noticed the salesperson being dropped off on the side of the road and the car speeding off,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, metro police spokesperson.

Mokheseng said the salesperson frantically waved at the officers. “He told them what happened and they gave chase,” he added.

He said during the chase the armed suspect flung himself out of the moving vehicle and escaped.

Police only found the driver in the car.
