Kidz Fountain Day Care wins Centre of Excellence
The centre competed with 300 others across Ekurhuleni.
Kidz Fountain Day Care Centre for early childhood development was awarded 2017 Centre of Excellence on November 3 at Ekurhuleni’s Early Childhood Development Awards Ceremony at Boksburg Civic Centre.
Located in Nokem Park on PA Du Plessis Street, the centre has been striving for excellence since it was established in 2009. Two of its teachers have also been nominated for best practitioners of the year.
Manager and co-founder of the centre Tsholofelo Notwala said Kidz Fountain, currently catering for 54 children between the ages of one and six years, was subjected to an evaluation by the City of Ekurhuleni before it was honoured.
“They checked our compliance, overall operations, management structure and financial management. After going through that whole process our centre was selected the winner,” Notwala said.
She said the recognition was a big achievement as many centres in Ekurhuleni were facing problems.
“This recognition was a breath of fresh air because there is a lot of bad news about many centres. The award is very encouraging because it boasts the morale of our teachers,” she said.
She said the two teachers who were nominated for best practitioners at the centre played a vital role for the centre to win.
“This is the overall work that they do with the children, stimulating them and nurturing their holistic development.”
Notwala said the teachers contributed to the recognition of the school as they are the ones working hard. “They implement the curriculum we have at our school,” she said.
She said the centre’s commitment to progress, improvement and innovation are the objectives the centre is driven to achieve.
“We want to be a centre that is not redundant and we are committed to the excellence we were recognised for. We are constantly improving our facility and our curriculum. We have also made a commitment to improving our management and even ourselves.
“We are committed to ensuring that we continuously develop academically because we believe we can only implement what we know and what we understand. In that way we can do better for the children,” she added.
