The driver suffered minor injuries and was in shock

Three properties were left fence-less when a truck crashed off Zuurfontein Road and landed on one of the properties on Tearose Street in Terenure Ext Six on Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

“I was sitting in my lounge when I heard noise and saw debris flying around. I thought it was a wind storm,” said one of the property owners, Koos van Niekerk.
“Then my son told me a truck drove past his bedroom window. I still thought it was a wind storm but when I went to go look the truck had already crashed into the third property.”
Elsabé van der Merwe, owner of the property where the truck came to a halt, said she wasn’t home when the accident happened.
“My husband and I received a call from our domestic worker who was home with her four-year-old daughter,” said Van der Merwe.
“She told us she heard a loud bang and two men were walking around in the yard. We called our neighbours to try and find out what was happening and they told us a truck had crashed into our house and we needed to come home.
“We rushed home and found the truck drove through the walls of two other properties before it drove through our wall and ultimately crashed into our house. We also found the driver sitting on the grass and the paramedics arrived and transported him to hospital.”
Van der Merwe told EXPRESS their bedroom wall was among the things damaged.
“The perimeter wall is damaged, our bedroom wall has a huge crack in it, the roof and our electric fence are also damaged,” said Van der Merwe.
“We are glad our domestic worker and her daughter were not hurt because the truck crashed into the room where the child was playing.”

Among those present at the scene was Anuska Engelbrecht-Bower, managing director of Alleycats Community Watch.
“This is scary because it could have been worse with more people injured,” said Engelbrecht-Bower.
“There needs to be proper barriers on Zuurfontein Road as this could have been prevented. What would have happened if there were children playing in either one of the yards? The metro needs to consider barriers urgently.”
