Jhb couple wins R100 000 shopping voucher at OR Tambo Airport
The retail competition was one of several activities run by the airport to mark the life and legacy of Oliver Reginald Tambo.
A Johannesburg couple was celebrating a windfall of R100 000 on Sunday after hearing they had won the 100for100 retail campaign that ran at OR Tambo International Airport in October.
Isaac and Dudu Masilela were on their way through the airport in October after returning from a trip. They bought retail goods for a few hundred Rands and at the same time were prompted to enter the competition to win a R100 000 shopping voucher valid at all airport retail stores.
OR Tambo International Airport’s general manager Bongiwe Pityi and her management team were on hand to congratulate the Masilelas and to hand over the grand shopping voucher.
The retail competition was one of several activities run by the airport to mark the life and legacy of Oliver Reginald Tambo, born 100 years ago in October this year.
Says Pityi: “This is truly a precedent-setting day for us as airport management. We have never hosted a competition of this magnitude before but knew we had to create something momentous in keeping with the significance of the 100th birthday of Oliver Tambo.”
Said Isaac: “I was super excited and at first thought this was a joke. However, given the professionalism of the person who called as well as the follow-up email showing where I had shopped and how much I had spent as part of this competition, I knew this was no joke.
“I told my wife and kids immediately of our good fortune. Thank you OR Tambo International Airport, you have made my festive season a very special, happy one indeed. We are certainly going to be spending quite a bit of time at the airport over the next while.”
Dudu was equally excited: “This could not have come at a better time. Of course we will ensure to get our children some special toys but will also ensure to get something special for both Isaac and me.”
