Never play with a ‘dead’ rinkhals, Benonian warns
Thinking the snake was dead, he picked it up and used it to demonstrate its body to his eight-year-old daughter
A Rynfield father got the shock of his life when a rinkhals he believed he had killed, came back to life moments later.
What made his experience with the “dead snake” even more disturbing, was the fact that he actually handled it and showed it to his daughter while it was “dead”, Benoni City Times reported.
Anthony Rochford was at his plot in Putfontein recently when he heard the dogs bark. Upon closer inspection, he saw a rinkhals.
Not wanting to harm the serpent, he took the dogs and his children away from the area. But before long, he said the snake was again in view of his young children. He eventually hit the snake over the head with a wooden pole.
Thinking the snake was dead, he picked it up and used it to demonstrate to his eight-year-old daughter the body of the animal and the dos and don’t around snakes. He exposed the fangs using his finger and wrapped the snake around his daughter’s arm.
After the exchange, he placed the serpent on a trailer. Upon his return a few minutes later, the same snake was hooded on the ground.
