Van Reenen’s Pass between Harrismith and Ladysmith has been re-opened for traffic following two fatal accidents on Friday morning.
The N3 Toll Concession warned that traffic delays would remain for a while.
The first crash, at Caltex Van Reenen, involved seven vehicles (three trucks, three taxis and one light motor vehicle). Two people died and many were injured, Ladysmith Gazette reported.
2km before this, in the northbound lane, two trucks collided. One fatality has been reported at this scene.
There has also been a diesel spillage on the N3 from a tanker that was leaking.
The N3 is closed until further notice.
Overcast and misty conditions have been reported on the N3 Toll Route, so motorists are urged to be safe.
Light motor vehicles can use the R74 Oliviershoek Pass.
