Five children injured in accident on R21

The rest of the patients were transported by another medical service

Twelve people, including five children, were injured on Saturday afternoon when a bakkie rear-ended a truck on the R21 at the Atlas Road off-ramp.

When ER24 arrived on the scene at 2.30pm, they found the patients sitting next to the highway, Ineke van Huyssteen of ER24 said.

ER24 transported the children, aged between 5 and 13, with minor injuries to hospital for further medical care.

The rest of the patients were transported by another medical service on the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known to paramedics but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
