Police officers knocked down on Zuurfontein Rd by EMPD officer
An off-duty metro police officer, driving his private Ford ST, was chasing a suspected stolen vehicle
TWO Sebenza police officers and a pedestrian were seriously injured when they were knocked down while attending to a car accident on Zuurfontein Road on Monday afternoon.
Police said the two officers were admitted to Arwyp and the pedestrian to Tembisa Hospital.
Sebenza spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the officers were taking a statement about the accident involving the alleged drunk driver at the intersection with Oranjerivier Drive.
The drunk driver, driving a Renault Megane, had slammed into a police vehicle, a Ford Figo, when he apparently skipped a red traffic light.

“He lost control of his vehicle at the same intersection and slammed into a stationary police car, a white Nissan. The Nissan rammed into the officers and pedestrian,” she said.
“The drunk driver was also admitted to hospital and will be charged with drinking and driving,” she said.
The suspected stolen vehicle and its driver got away.
