Two behind bars after putting suspected thief in coffin at mortuary

According to residents, the mortuary is still new and not yet rendering services to the community

Two suspects aged 25 and 30 years were arrested on December 15 by Tembisa South Police for kidnapping, assault and intimidation.

Tembisa South SAPS communications officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela said the suspects allegedly kidnapped a 23-year- old man at his home in Vusumusi Squatter Camp after allegations of cell phone theft.

“The victim was taken to one of the mortuaries in Vusumusi Squatter Camp where he was placed in the mortuary room and later put in a coffin. The victim was allegedly rescued by his uncle who phoned as he wanted to know the victim’s whereabouts before the suspects could close the upper part of the coffin.

According to residents, the mortuary is still new and not yet rendering services to the community,” said Captain Sekgobela.

She said Police are investigating the docket and are expecting to make other arrests regarding the matter.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
