Academic achievement is not a be-all-end-all for youth to realise their dreams in South Africa.
Scores of young people loiter in the streets with well-recognised academic qualifications but still struggle to get proper employment.
The frustrated young citizens feel they are failing dismally in their pursuit of success and as a result, they give up.
But for Vuyisile Booi success does not depend on material acquisition. He said for him success is doing what you are passionate about.
Vuyisile never attained appropriate academic achievements to put him in the echelon of the well educated from the township.
Vuyisile said he grew up without both his parents; his mother passed away in 2002 and his father was never part of his life. He (father) also died in 2010.
“I was raised by my grandmother who passed away in July 2017 and I don’t allow my past to affect my future.”
All this may have had a negative impact on his life but now he has found his resurrection ever since he came across SMA Modelling Agency.
Vuyisile is a young man who is passionate when it comes to the arts i.e modelling, acting, poetry and presenting.
“I realised I had a passion for modelling when I was in primary school.
“But I couldn’t push through or see my dream come true due to a low self-esteem.
“That was caused by a lack of motivation from within myself. It was influenced by the situation at home and a lack of sponsorship,” said the 23-year-old.
“I joined SMA Modelling Agency and it helped me to feature on an e.tv drama called Rhythm City.
“The agency continues to mentor me. They are taking me to the top by getting me modeling and acting opportunities.
“Now I am a motivated fellow who wants to stop at nothing; I strive to fulfill my talent’s purpose,” said Vuyisile.
He said he believes he is living his dream already even though it is just taking off.
Vuyisile may not have been able to follow through with education due to financial constraints, but he looked at other aspects of his life and realised he has a new lease of life in the entertainment industry.
He hopes Tembisa youth can take an example from his life and endeavour to achieve more in their own lives.
“My advice to all young people out there is: don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t allow your past to affect your future.”
