Eight killed in two accidents in Ekurhuleni

Eight people have been killed in two accidents in Ekurhuleni since Friday.
Two people were killed and three others sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled on the N12 at the Putfontein exit on Saturday morning.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at 4.20am, they found two people inside the vehicle. Two others were found walking around on the scene, Ineke van Huyssteen of ER24 said.
“Upon further assessment, it was found that one of the patients in the vehicle had succumbed to his injuries and he was declared dead on the scene. Three patients were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.
“Paramedics then found another man lying some metres away from the vehicle. Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for the man and he was also declared dead on the scene.”
ER24 and another medical service on the scene transported the patients to hospital for further medical care.
In a gruesome accident on the M2 east before the Geldenhuys interchange in Germiston on Friday night six people, five adults and a child, were killed.
According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni emergency services, the minibus in which they were travelling crashed against the metal centre barrier.
A rescue team from Germiston Central Fire Station responded to the scene after receiving the call at 8.45pm.
“On arrival, it was found that a minibus taxi carrying nineteen passengers crashed against the barrier on the freeway, ejecting one adult who was among the deceased before coming to a stop, Ntladi said.
Six patients were declared deceased on scene by paramedics, while two other passengers sustained critical injuries, nine serious but stable injuries while three had minor injuries. The driver and two minors were among the casualties.
All casualties were transported by private ambulances to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Hillbrow Clinic and Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston.
