N3 closed following fatal accident involving truck, two cars
The rescue team had to use specialised rescue equipment to recover the body of the deceased from the wreckage
A passenger was killed and two drivers critically injured in an accident on the N3 on Friday morning around 10am.
According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, two cars and an articulated truck were involved in the accident on the N3 north before Grey Avenue in Germiston.
The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Wadeville Fire Station responded to the scene.
In one vehicle there were two occupants, a female driver and male passenger. The passenger was declared dead on the scene, Ntladi said.
The female driver was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the other light motor vehicle was critically injured and transported to Union Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.
The rescue team had to use specialised rescue equipment to recover the body of the deceased from the wreckage. The cause of the crash is undetermined and is under investigation by law enforcement units who were on scene, Ntladi said.
