Date night for ‘power couple’ after 57 years

A couple who have been living in Kempton Park since they got married will celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary on December 17.

Koos (78) and Kotie Botha (77) have also been loyal citizens, having voted every single time in the past 57 years, as they believe every vote counts and that together they can make a difference, said their granddaughter, Celeste Loubser.

“When they got married in 1960, they promised each other to always be humble and kind to one another, and to this day Kotie believes that this is their secret. Their isn’t a recipe for a successful marriage, but it is important to always believe in the magic of one’s kindness in a relationship,” she added.

“They set a great example, as all four of their children are also still married. As a grandchild I learn so much from them.

“They treat each other with so much respect and still make time to let the other person feel special. My grandfather is even taking my grandmother out on a date on their anniversary. How sweet is that, after 57 years!

“My husband and I look up to them and see their marriage as an inspiration. We are grateful to be surrounded by this power couple. They still have so much energy for life and for each other.

“They have a big passion for life but an even bigger passion for each other after 57 years of marriage. My grandfather said he instantly knew the day he first saw her that he was going to marry her, before he even knew her name. It was love at first sight,” Celeste said.
