Norkem Park Primary Grade Ones settle in

The school conducted an orientation for the parents on Tuesday

GRADE One learners of Norkem Park Primary School started the academic year with excitement along with thousands of other children across South Africa on Wednesday.

By 8.30am , learners at the school were already acquainted with each other and the racket in the school’s yard could be heard from the main entrance.

Many of the children who had been dropped off by their parents and guardians were happily settled and looking comfortable in their new school uniforms.

The principal of the school, John Clark, said many children were enrolled last year, but some were doing walk-ins and the numbers could increase.

“Yesterday I met with my Grade One parents. We showed them the classes to show them we would be ready for the children,” Clark said.

One of the teachers, Garlene Bezuidenhout, said: “I have 32 Grade One learners at the moment, but there will be two more learners coming.

Bezuidenhout, who described the atmosphere of her new class as beautiful, was also excited to begin the year’s lessons.

“We have one little boy who gave me a laugh because he was so eager to start lessons,” she said. “I told him to play quietly while we were waiting for the others to arrive, but he said no, he was ready to work.”
