WATCH: Local whiz needs help to visit China
She has 10 distinctions and an 84% average, but cannot afford to attend the opportunity of a lifetime.
Local economics whiz Tamzyn Kraucamp (20) of Esther Park has been chosen to attend a business and entrepreneurship delegation in China.
However, if this third-year NWU economics student fails to raise the about R60 000 needed to cover her flights, Visa and programme costs, her dream to visit East Asia to learn more about business may never come true.
When Tamzyn started her tertiary studies, she never imagined she would like economics. Now, this former Edenglen High School pupil has 10 distinctions and an average of 84 per cent.
This dedication to her studies makes her part of the top 15 per cent academic achievers in her degree and is also the reason why she was chosen to visit China.
This eleven-day trip in May will give her the opportunity to meet other economic students from across the world, to speak to influential Chinese business people and to learn more about a different culture.
To this dynamic student, it would be the opportunity of a lifetime.

Tamzyn and her family cannot afford to pay for the trip, but she is determined to make her dream come true. For this reason, she started a fundraising campaign on the website GoGetFunding.
Here, possible donors can see the letter from senior director Matt Castrina, who invited Tamzyn to attend the programme. So far, she has only raised R2 100.
Tamzyn dreams of becoming a macro-economist and one day working for the South African Reserve Bank.
