VIDEO: Driver of P91 bus claims the steering wheel locked
A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated following a bus accident on the P91 (R25)
Fourty-six passengers, including the driver, were injured when a bus overturned on the P91 (R25) under the Zuurfontein Bridge in Kempton Park on Sunday afternoon.
According to Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Sebenza SAPS, the bus was headed for Tsakane.
“The bus driver said they got lost while travelling from Soweto to Tsakane,” said Tsotsotso.

“The driver alleged while looking for proper directions to Tsakane the bus’ steering wheel locked while driving. The driver lost control of the bus and it veered into oncoming traffic.”
The bus overturned and landed on its side under the bridge.
Of the 46 passengers, 36 were transported to Tembisa Hospital,” added Tsotsotso.
“One of those transported to hospital was seriously injured with a fracture to his left leg while the rest suffered minor injuries.”
Brig Frank Mthombeni, deputy cluster commander for Ekurhuleni North Cluster, was also at the scene and said investigators would reveal the cause of the accident.
“The findings of the investigations will clarify whether the steering wheel indeed locked and determine the cause of the accident,” explained Mthombeni.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated.”
