WATCH: Mooifontein welcomes 2018 academic year

Laerskool Mooifontein Primary School enrolled 202 Grade One learners.

The country was abuzz with back-to-school vibes on Wednesday morning last week.

While most are returning learners who were familiar with their schools and facilities, there were first time Grade One learners who took their first step of big school.

Laerskool Mooifontein Primary was among the local schools that were ready for the first day of the 2018 academic year.

The school’s acting principal, Gerrie Oosthuizen, said proper planning was the reason their first day ran smoothly.

“We had a good start. The first day is going well without any problems,” said Oosthuizen on the first day of school.

“Good preparation is key. We started communicating information to our existing and new parents from last year. Our parent community is very supportive and we appreciate that.”

The school has 202 Grade One learners who enrolled for the 2018 academic year.

Oosthuizen’s plans for the year include: “I want things at the school to run smoothly. I want a very good pass rate and excel in sport among other things. We hope for a good and successful year ahead.”

Alda Strauss’ Grade One class started the 2018 academic year on a good note.

Benjie Molopyane and Minenhle Mngoma, who share a desk in their Grade One class, are eagerly waiting to start learning.
