Rand Water assures consumers of listeriosis-free drinking water
The testing for this bacterium is not a requirement in the current drinking water standard

Following the important announcements made by the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, on the Listeriosis outbreak in South Africa, Rand Water conducted extensive laboratory tests on drinking water samples from its bulk water supply system.
The results of the water samples tested indicated no presence of the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes.
The bacterium is widely distributed in nature and can be found in soil, water and vegetation. Animal products and fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables can be contaminated from these sources.
Although the testing for this bacterium is not a requirement in the current drinking water standard (SANS 241:2015), Rand Water embarked on the testing programme to assure its customers of the safety of its bulk drinking water supply.
Rand Water continuously tests the quality of its bulk drinking water for compliance prior to supplying to municipalities. Rand Water Analytical Services is fully accredited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) and demonstrates the organisation’s acceptance of international quality standards.
The laboratory participates in national and international proficiency testing schemes to continuously monitor the quality of its data.
