Moriting community celebrates Human Rights Day
Activities for the day included poetry, drama, music and the boys’ choir Dikakapa tsa Manyalo
The community of Moriting section celebrated their Human Rights Day by commemorating the name of their street, which is called 21 March Street.
Neighbours, children and visitors took to the street to observe the day by watching performances and listening to keynote speakers on March 21.
Organiser Laurence Moabelo said the event is an annual event and it is in its fourth edition.
“The event is growing and we have now partnered with Life 4U foundation in fighting poverty in our community,” said Moabelo.
Activities for the day included poetry, drama, music and the boys’ choir Dikakapa tsa Manyalo.
Phillip Mnguni spoke at length about the dangers of using nyaope.

Albany Bakery sponsored the event with a mobile stage and PA system.
EPX couriers provided jumping castles, gazebos and printed T-shirts.
“We also had people from the City of Ekurhuleni who came to see what we were doing at this event.
The event is growing bigger each year,” Moabelo added.
Ward 100 councillor Phokwane Mabotha said he was very happy to be part of the event and he supports what the community is doing.
“Our children must know where we are coming from and where we are going.
“They must know the history and their rights, they must not abuse rights,” said Mabotha.
Mantsha Masedi (13) said she wants to thank the organisers for presenting the event.
“We have learned a lot about the importance of rights and we should not get into drugs as young people.
“As young people we must get education so that we can be leaders of the country,” said Masedi.
