Residents take a stand against gangsterism through Thembisa prayer walk

Organization take a stand against rapid growth of gangsterism.

Residents of Thembisa recently came together for an inspirational walk and prayer event aimed at addressing gangsterism in local schools and promoting positive values among young people.

The initiative encouraged community members to unite in prayer for learners and to advocate for safer school environments free from violence and gang-related activities.

Organisers said the event highlighted the importance of spiritual guidance, community involvement and the African philosophy of Ubuntu.

The Walk and Pray initiative was a collaborative effort involving several non-governmental and non-profit organisations committed to community development and youth empowerment.

Participating organisations included Sphiwe’s 1632, Igugu Lezion Youth Organisation, Bopha, Hand On, Bophelong, 1632 CC and Uthungo Lenkosazana.

Participants embarked on a peaceful walk through the community, engaging with residents and pausing at various points to offer prayers.

Organisers said the event demonstrated the strength of collective action and the positive impact that can be achieved when organisations work together towards a common goal.

Event organisers Bishop Thabang Dubazan, Dudu Fumba and Mothlatleo Pampa expressed their appreciation to the participating organisations and community members whose support contributed to the success of the initiative.

In addition to the prayer walk, participants donated dignity sanitary pads, which will be distributed to child-headed households through local schools.

Organisers said the event provided an opportunity for spiritual engagement while also supporting vulnerable members of the community through practical assistance.
