Glen Marikana march ends peaceful

The Glen Marika marchers have returned to Dann Road, after marching to three of the four shopping centres they intended to. The march was peaceful all the way and no property damage was reported.

11.15am:
The marchers are on Monument Road, approaching Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre.
10.35:
Andreas Stephanou accepted the memorandum on behalf of Spar. The marchers have arrived at Woodbridge Square. They will then proceed to Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre.
They will not visit Glen Balad Mall because of the court interdict obtained.
10.10am:
The marchers have arrived at Glen Acres Shopping Centre. The centre has cordoned off an area for the marchers. The same has been done at Woodbridge Square.
Before entering the parking area at Glen Acres, the marchers had been warned by the EFF’s Isaac Mampana not to damage vehicles on the premises. Everything still under control.
A SuperSpar representative will receive the memorandum.

9.55am:
Marchers are currently on Dann Road, apparently making their way to SuperSpar at Glen Acres Shopping centre. No motorists are allowed on Dann Road and are being diverted onto different routes.
9.45am:
The marchers are approaching Glen Balad Mall. Everything still peaceful.
9.20am:
Marchers from Glen Marikana Informal Settlement on Dann Road have started their march a few minutes ago.
They are planning to march to four shopping centres in Glen Marais this morning (Monday).
Kempton Express journalist Puleng Sekabate reports from the scene that marchers are singing.

Security at Glen Balad Mall is massive with gates having been closed. The metro police, police, K9 units and various security agencies are present. According to security at Glen Balad Mall the marchers will not be allowed into the centre, as there is an interdict against them.
Metro police vehicles have also been spotted at Glen Acres Shopping Centre earlier.
