Dann Road squatters: no eviction order yet

The Court will not issue an eviction order until a report from the metro has been compiled which addresses the question of availability of temporary land or accommodation.

Residents frustrated with the squatter camp on Dann Road, will have no answer soon.

No eviction order was granted by The Johannesburg High Court on Monday and the case had been remanded to the opposed roll for September 10, the earliest date available.

In a nutshell, these are some of the outcomes of what happened in court on Monday:

1. The metro has not finalised its report for additional housing and the Court has given them 45 days, from Monday, to complete this report.

The Court will not issue an eviction order until a report from the metro has been compiled which addresses the question of availability of temporary land or accommodation.

2. The MEC for housing indicated the metro would abide by the Court’s decision and would not oppose the eviction.

3. The Court ordered that the occupants need to, within 15 days from Monday, supply their names and circumstances that indicate the urgent need for alternative accommodation.

These need to be supplied to the metro which will be taken into account when the metro finalises its report.

A more in-depth article will be published next week.
