Friends of the Libraries say farewell to two
‘We wish these ladies all the best for their future endeavours,’ said Ellen Harmse.
The Friends of the Kempton Park Libraries are saying goodbye to two colleagues who will retire at the end of May.
Marietjie Macnamara was the senior librarian at the Birchleigh North Library since it opened its doors in August 1991 and Gerda Smith joined the permanent staff in February 1996.
Marietjie and Gerda contributed hugely with their knowledge and experience to the Friends. This helped the Friends to grow from strength to strength to what they are today.
Together with the Friends of the Library they provided support for and organised several major functions and fund-raising projects for the library, including tasting evenings, creative classes and a cheese and wine evening.
Marietjie was the ex officio member and library representative for the Friends of the Library for many years.
“We wish these ladies all the best for their future endeavours,” said Ellen Harmse on behalf of the Friends.
Marietjie will spend quality time with her semi-retired husband and Gerda will travel and spend time with her family.
“The Friends of the Library wish Michael Madau all the best in his role of maintaining continuity at the Birchleigh North Library. We hope to build on the relationship of the past through collaboration with Michael, leading to further growth and support of the library for the community,” Harmse added.
