A police officer of 36 years hung up his black police boots for good on Friday.
Norkem Park SAPS’ Capt Salane Koos Chauke (60), who better known by his colleagues as Capt Blackstone, completed his police training in 1981 at Hammanskraal Police Academy before transferring to Alexandra SAPS.
From there, this Limpopo-born and bred officer transferred to Sandton SAPS until 1992, where he worked in the vehicle crime investigation unit.

This father of three boys and one daughter saw many police stations during his career, which include Johannesburg Central and Brixton, before returning to Alexandra in 2005.
In 2006, he finally joined Norkem Park SAPS, where he would spend the last 12 years of his career.
Members of the Norkem Park station held a farewell function for their beloved Capt Blackstone on Friday. Among those who attended were station commander Col Tobias Strauss, the station head of the detectives, Lt Col Potgieter and crime prevention head Lt Col Petrus Tsoute. The retired officer’s wife, Mokgaetshi Pinky Chauke, also attended the festivities.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for the station, bade farewell to Chauke: “May he enjoy his days of being an elderly citizen with his happy family.”
