Soccer and talent contest at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld fund-raiser

The NGO formed by ex-learners of Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School has organised a full day of activities and entertainment to attract families.

Preparations for Sir Pierre Soccer Tournament and Fund-raiser are well underway.

The first Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School soccer tournament and fund-raising event are taking place on June 23 and 24.

The NGO, formed by ex-learners to raise funds to repair the school, has organised a full day of activities and entertainment to attract families and enjoy an eventful weekend at the school.

Said Miguel Gomes, founder of the NGO and ex-learner of Sir Pierre: “We have pulled out all the stops to ensure that we create a fun-filled day with something for everyone. We have had some amazing sponsors come on board and we need the support and generosity of the community to help us make this event a success.”

Eight schools will participate in the soccer tournament from 9am each day. These are Norkem Park High School, Dawnview, Wordsworth, Benoni High, Dinwiddie, HTS Rhodesfield, Masiqakaze and Sir Pierre.

A talent search competition is being hosted and run by ANUA Rising Stars Talent Showcase. Come sing, come dance, come model, come act. Entry is R100.

Featuring entertainment and great performances by Nico G, Lize-Marie, Dean K, Amonzi’Q, Amber Moon, Tamia and Jaylee.

The competitions will be judged by the regional directors of iPOP! in South Africa. The winner gets one free entry into the South African Performing Arts Model & Talent (iPOP! in South Africa) Convention and Competition in August. The prize is worth over R3 500.

“We have secured MrGravetown as the MC. Through the Gravetown Arts Foundation he has been touching lives since 2004 with his music and social development programme in and around Tembisa.

There is a beer tent with beer and gin on tap (strictly over 21), as well as food stalls, big screens showing the Fifa World Cup games, an entrepreneur market and fun rides and jumping castles for children. Learners and alumni will be selling raffle tickets over the weekend for R10 with prizes ranging from vouchers, weekends away, to laptops.

Entry on the day is R20 adults, R10 children and kids under five years are free.
