Two suspects have appeared in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on June 11 in connection with the alleged murder of a 34-year-old man in Ivory Park’s Extension Six.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Capt Bernard Matimulane, it is alleged there was a drunken brawl between the deceased, who was in the company of two other men, and the suspects on the other hand.
“Witnesses to the murder, which happened on June 9, said during the fracas one of the suspects sped to his place and came back with a sharp object used to stab the deceased, who died a few moments later. The second victim was stabbed on his feet and is currently in hospital,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane added the two suspects, aged 19 and 20, all foreign nationals, have been charged with murder and assault GBH.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has blamed the high level of alcohol abuse.
“If the details of what brought about these fights are a guide, it is clear that there was no basis for any person to lose his life,” Ngcobo said.
He called on those selling liquor to desist from selling liquor to people who are already drunk, as these actions often lead to incidents such as this.
