“A man in an ice-cream van stole my wheelie bin.”
No, this is not a prank, but rather the call Express received from an upset resident on Monday morning.According to Annetjie Labuschagne (40), who lives on the corner of Jacaranda Street and Highveld Road, she arrived home to find her bin was missing.
A teenager who saw the theft told her about the bizarre event, only 10 minutes before she arrived home.
“The teen saw a man get out of a green ice-cream van and walked to where our bin was standing. The youngster asked what he was up to because he looked suspicious. The man then grabbed the wheelie bin, placed it in his van and drove off.”
Yes, Labuschagne added, the bin was still full of garbage.
“Our bin was outside because we never know when the municipality will come and fetch it.”
Any other readers who might fall victim to wheelie bin theft must approach the nearest depot for a replacement. The council will replace the wheelie bin free of charge, provided a police case number and an affidavit is submitted by the resident stating the bin has been stolen.
