An ambulance was called to a crime scene on Dann Road on Thursday last week, not because a suspect was wounded but because he complained about stomach cramps after being confronted by metro police officers about a stolen vehicle.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson, on Tuesday said metro police officers were not involved in any scuffle, chase or shoot-out as reported by Express last week.
Kgasago said one of the officers belonging to the EMPD Warrant of Arrests Unit noticed a suspicious vehicle with two occupants. On checking, it turned out the vehicle was reported stolen.
“The officer stopped the vehicle and informed both the driver and his passenger that they were in a vehicle reported stolen. The occupants claimed they had just bought the vehicle and were not aware that it was stolen,” Kgasago added.
While on the scene, one of the occupants complained of stomach aches.
“Suspecting the man could have swallowed drugs, the officers summoned an ambulance and the ‘patient’ was taken to a hospital whereupon the diagnosis revealed nothing was wrong with him.
“Both suspects were detained at Kempton Park Police Station on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” said Kgasago.
Kempton Express apologise for the incorrect information published last week.
