ZB Kids raise funds to support girl learners

On Youth Day, the ZB Kids Organisation, based in Tembisa, managed to raise funds through a car wash at Isiziba Section for a sanitary pads drive.
This group of youths, originally hailing from Zebediela in Limpopo, is collecting sanitary towels to hand out to the neediest girl learners at schools in their home village every three months.
“When starting this organisation, we thought back to how when we were still teenagers we sometimes struggled to purchase sanitary towels. We were forced to bunk school to avoid embarrassing ourselves,” said Tebogo Aphane, the founder of ZB Kids Organisation.
She explained that their aim is to protect and restore self-esteem to the learners whose families are struggling to purchase a sanitary pack every month.

“Since we started early this year, we’ve realised the impact that we are having on those girls. They need our support, love and respect in order to improve their spirits. We want to motivate them that they too shall overcome their circumstances against all odds and become better leaders of tomorrow if they focus on their education,” added Aphane.
Aphane said they are encouraging young girls to not rely on men if they are struggling to purchase sanitary towels.“Look for organisations that provide monthly sanitary towels to avoid teenage pregnancy, abuse or sexual diseases. When making these donations, we have some discussions with the teenagers in order to reach out to them and listen to the issues affecting them. It is very sad when a girl teenager tells you her alternative method when she doesn’t have sanitary pads during her menstruation,” said Aphane.
Sadi Motoa, another member, said she was very impressed with Aphane’s idea to support young girls in Zebediela village.
“This campaign has brought light to some of us about people who are really struggling in poverty and need everyone’s support in order to make it at the end of the day. We will continue to influence other people from Zebediela to join the organisation to ensure that pads are available for the girl learners,” said Motoa.
