SARS says systems remain secure after online claims
SARS has encouraged taxpayers to remain alert to scams and phishing attempts falsely claiming to originate from the organisation.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has dismissed social media claims alleging that its systems were breached, describing the reports as false and unsubstantiated.
In a statement, SARS said it continuously monitors its digital systems for suspicious activity and conducted a thorough investigation after the allegations began circulating online.
“At this stage, there is no evidence that SARS’s systems have been compromised,” the statement read.
SARS reassured taxpayers and traders that the integrity of its systems remains intact, adding that protecting taxpayer information and securing its digital platforms remain top priorities.
The organisation said safeguarding taxpayer data forms part of its broader strategy to build a smart and modern institution with “unquestionable integrity” while strengthening public trust in the country’s tax administration system.
SARS urged the public to verify information before sharing it online and warned against spreading unverified claims from unofficial sources.

SARS said taxpayers should rely only on official and verified communication platforms for accurate information.
