Kempton Park is the only city in the metro with refuse removal problems, the metro admitted on Friday in a reply to Kempton Express’ questions.
However, this will be sorted out this weekend, says Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro.
The City of Ekurhuleni replied to accusations leveled by Ald André du Plessis, DA shadow MMC environmental development, earlier this week, in which he addressed the problem.

Du Plessis stated that transfer stations across Ekurhuleni were affected because of contracts that expired on June 30. These contracts, according to Du Plessis, had not been renewed.
Gadebe said: “It must be reported that contrary to the statement that refuse removal services in the City are headed for a disaster, the services are rendered as scheduled in all areas with the exception of Kempton Park, where there are backlogs. There is a recovery plan in place to clear all the backlogs in the area this weekend [July 7-8].”
“With regard to services at mini disposal sites, the contract for the management and maintenance of the said facilities expired on June 30, as stated. The new contract, No. A-WMS 05/2018, has been awarded and service providers are fully operational, starting from Friday, July 6.
“The mini disposal facilities in Kempton Park are experiencing mechanical breakdowns, in particular the Highveld transfer facility. Processes to repair same are underway,” he added.
