Police arrest 10 suspects in crime crackdown

The suspects appeared and will appear in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of drugs, fraud, defeating the ends of justice, possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 10 suspects, recovered drugs, a motorcycle and a vehicle between August 31 and September 3.

Five suspects aged 21 to 28 were arrested for drug-related offences in Kempton Park at North Rand Road, in Etwatwa at Ext 30, and in Putfontein at Modimolle Street, Mayfield. Crystal methamphetamine was recovered in these separate incidents.

On September 1, police arrested a 35-year-old suspect in a white Toyota Vitz at Market Link and Pretoria Road, Kempton Park, when they found the vehicle displaying false registration plates.

Members, receiving a lookout on the radio of a black Volkswagen Polo that committed an armed robbery, picked up the vehicle with four suspects in it at Kirkland and Acton Streets, Dalview.

The vehicle and occupants were searched, leading to the arrest of four suspects when members recovered a toy firearm, two knives and an alleged stolen iPhone valued at R7 000.

In further policing, a stolen stripped motorcycle reported in an Alexandra case was recovered in an open field at Lindelani squatter camp, next to Kingsway Road, and an abandoned hijacked white Audi A4 was recovered with a tracking company at the taxi rank on 1st Avenue, Springs, in a Katlehong case.

Investigation continues in all cases.
