What Tembisans are planning for their 67 Minutes for Mandela

Tembisa talk about their plans for Mandela day.

It is Mandela Month and many companies and individuals will be coming out in numbers to assist organisations in need for their 67 Minutes for Mandela.

We asked people what they had planned for the day and this is what they had to say.

Pertunia Mahlangu: “Giving back to the community should be a continuous gesture that happens every month and every day, not on Mandela Day only. I do give back to the community and I do it every day. People are in need every day. God gave us whatever we have to share with other people who are less fortunate; disadvantaged people who not have enough to afford what we have.”

Lufuno Motloung: “I have an uncle who is wheelchair bound, he stays in an outside room. I have saved enough money from my pocket money to renovate his room. I am also part of a youth group that will be donating sanitary pads. People must help as often as they can, not just on Mandela Day. It is important to help underprivileged people because they do not have the resources to afford certain things by themselves.”

Tshepo Moloi: “I think giving back is a right thing because it assists the poor. It shouldn’t only happen in July, it should happen throughout the year. If we are giving this month only what about the other months? We must maintain the spirit of giving back to the community every day. If you give fish to a person he or she will only be full for a day but if you teach them to catch a fish they will be full for their entire life.”

Confidence Manganyi: “I plan to join a team that will be cleaning at Tembisa Fire Station.
I want to encourage everyone to join in the 67 minutes campaign to honor tata Mandela. This should not only be done on one day. Giving food to the needy only for one specific day means the giver does not care. I would say an organisation needs to be set up and be named after tata Mandela that will mind the orphans and give them food every day.”

Sibusiso Nxumalo: “This Mandela Month I plan to assist at an old age home in Kopanong in doing my bit during the 67 minutes for Mandela. I will help in cleaning the yard and also give away clothes. I do this each month and I also assist in other organisations. We grew up with the people who are in need therefore we must unite in building the community.”
