WATCH: Three Glen Marais robbers still at large

Express was on the scene when the eight-year-old boy, who was in the house during the robbery, saw his mother for the first time after the incident.

Three men are still at large following their failed attempt to rob a Glen Marais home on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the three armed suspects were spooked when local crime patrollers entered the home on Kremetart Avenue. So much so, they left their black Ford Focus behind and fled on foot. It was confirmed that the car was stolen in Springs earlier this year.

The vehicle, with its doors still open, was cordoned off in the driveway when the homeowner arrived at the scene at around 3pm.

By then, she had not yet seen the domestic worker or her eight-year-old son, who were home during the incident. She ran past the blue-and-white police tape to embrace her employee. The woman, who was captured and tied-up by the attempted robbers while taking out refuse, started sobbing.

Shortly after, she ran inside the home to find her son. He then came outside but showed no sign of distress. He was in the bath while the dangerous incident played out, and was left unharmed.

“I thank God that no one was hurt,” his mom told Express but did not wish to comment further.

A domestic worker and the home owner’s eight-year-old son were home during the robbery.

Neighbours visited the traumatised family, while the police, metro police and local crime patrollers searched surrounding premises and streets in the hope of finding the suspects. Their efforts were fruitless.

A case of the attempted robbery is currently under investigation. Mtshali urged anyone with information to call the police on 08600 10111.
