Ivory Park sleuths net two murder suspects

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the victim was strangled and stabbed multiple times at an open veld in Clayville near Midrand.

Ivory Park SAPS detectives arrested a second suspect in connection with the murder that transpired in March last year of a 30-year old woman from Ivory Park’s Extension Two.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the victim was strangled and stabbed multiple times at an open veld in Clayville near Midrand.

“Following months of intensive investigations, which took the police to KwaZulu-Natal province and back, the police have arrested a 26-year old man on July 25 who apparently originates from Newcastle in KZN for the gruesome murder. The first suspect to have been arrested was the woman’s 40-year-old boyfriend, who, also following months of investigations, was nabbed in February 2018 at his residential place in Midrand,” said Matimulane.

Matimulane added evidence at police’s disposal indicates that the latest arrestee may be the hitman, allegedly hired by the boyfriend to kill the victim who, at the time, was employed by one of the big retail stores in Midrand.

“The victim was apparently lured to her gruesome death under the pretext of going to a movie, only to be killed. He is the second murder suspect to have been arrested in Ivory Park on Wednesday alone.

“Elsewhere another team of detectives have arrested a 20-year old Mozambican national for another murder this past Sunday (July 22) in which the victim was stabbed with a bottle in Ext Two, Ivory Park. The police launched a manhunt following the murder and it was by luck that information arrived on time that the suspect was preparing to cross the border to Mozambique,” said Matimulane.

“I want to express my appreciation to my informers for informing us on time of the suspect’s intentions to escape because, had it not been for them, the suspect would have literally escaped with murder,” said the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo.

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face charges of murder.
