Tembisa Hospital CEO: ‘These staff have messed up big time’

They are trying to pressure the hospital to drop those charges against them, says Mogaladi

Protesting staff members of Tembisa Hospital failed to present a memorandum to hospital CEO Lekopane Mogoladi on Wednesday as he did not pitch.

According to the members and unions partaking, the action will continue until the marchers’ demands are met.

When speaking to Mogoladi, he said the march was illegal as the marchers never engaged with hospital management at any level concerning their issues.

“I cannot accept a memorandum from people I do not know or know anything about their grievances. They never arranged with us or even verified whether we were aware of the march,” said Mogaladi.

When asked whether he was aware of apparent sexual harassment issues, Mogaladi said if people were sexually harassed in the hospital, they must open charges against those harassing them.

“I am not aware of such allegations. What I know is that some of our staff members who were involved in the march, have messed up big time and have serious charges against them involving patients. All those cases of disciplinary action are still in progress.

“They are trying to pressure the hospital to drop those charges against them. I did not come to Tembisa Hospital to lower the standard of care or to kill patients. If workers are suspected of misconduct, proper investigations are done. Proper channels are followed to take the necessary steps against the worker,” explained Mogaladi.

Mogaladi said the hospital did not have any disputes with its workers and unions.
