A fun day for children and parents at Westside Primary

Activities for the day include a movie hour, egg and spoon race, dance competition, ghost house, sack race, fishing competition, jumping castles, face painting, bead bracelets and a lucky draw with prizes at the end of the day.

Westside Primary School is looking to expand next year.

The school started as a pre-school in 1979 and had its first Grade One class in 2000. The school only has Grade One to Grade Four classes and is looking to expand to Grade Seven. They also want to make the school fees affordable to the community.

“We are part of a government feeding scheme that feeds over 140 children daily.”

Aveng Construction donated three classrooms in the past years and Laerskool Van Riebeeck Park donated one as part of the expansion of the school.

Most classes have 42 learners and they are worried that learners leaving the school for Grade Five do not find space in other schools as they are already overcrowded.

Westside Primary will host a family fun day at the school as part of the expansion initiative on September 1.

The fun day will be from 10am to 2pm. Activities for the day include a movie hour, egg and spoon race, dance competition, ghost house, sack race, fishing competition, jumping castles, face painting, bead bracelets and a lucky draw with prizes at the end of the day.

Items that will be sold are hot dogs, burgers, chips, cakes, various puddings and candy. There will be a tuck shop, and an arts and craft table.

Additionally, they are looking for sponsors for food they can sell at the fun day.

Bring your camp chairs and/or picnic blankets.

The school is situated at 19 Keir Avenue, Kempton Park West.
