Ekurhuleni North Cluster SAPS arrest successes in August considerably improved, with two police stations in Ekurhuleni North Cluster mounting integrated operations and assisted by the metro police and other law enforcement agencies.
Corporate communication at Ekurhuleni North Cluster Captain Mofana Masela issued a statement on August 12 praising the success of the joint operation which helped to arrest suspects with unlicensed firearms in Edenvale and Tembisa.
“Illegal drugs were recorded in almost all police stations. Norkem Park and Rabie Ridge had the highest amount of illegal drugs seized.
“Arrests for possession of suspected stolen vehicles were made by the Edenvale SAPS and Tembisa SAPS.
“The operation arrested 78 suspects for drink-and-driving offences mostly in Kempton Park and Sebeza. Twenty arrests were recorded from all stations for assault cases and domestic violence.”
Masela said drinking in public is a problem contributing to the crime problem, and that it needed to be addressed.
He said exceeding speed limit is a problem that requires attention, and that the operation arrested suspects to prevent accidents.
“Dagga is also a problem. Seven suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga.
“More suspects were also arrested for burglary, and seven suspects for robbery.
“More than 30 arrests were made on other crimes.
“The police are making an effort to make our communities feel safe by frequently being visible on our streets. We need to encourage community participation,” said Masela.
