Benoni Flying Squad confiscates illegal guns in Tembisa

Benoni Flying Squad make successful arrests over the weekend.

From August 24 to 26, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 10 suspects for various offences.

Benoni Flying Squad communications officer WO Grant Giblin said members also recovered two motor vehicles and two firearms in the North Rand.

“Two suspects were arrested in Kempton Park CBD for shoplifting and another suspect was arrested in October Drive, Ivory Park, for the same offence.

“Members found two suspects in Leralla Train Station in Esangweni, Tembisa, with dagga and another two suspects were arrested around Turton Street in Daveyton, they were also found with the same drug. All suspects were arrested immediately and the dagga confiscated,” said Giblin.

Giblin said members reacting to information arrested a man from Ethafeni Section, Tembisa, after allegedly being found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol with the number filed off and four live rounds of ammunition.

According to Giblin, a blue Toyota Tazz, found on the premises, was also impounded for allegedly being used in robberies in the area.

“In Ivory Park, Extension Seven, members arrested a suspect after allegedly also being found with a 9mm pistol and eight live rounds. After an investigation, a number found on the barrel of the firearm linked it to having been robbed on a 2010 Tembisa case.

“In further policing, an Ivory Park man was detained for allegedly being linked to a white Mercedes-Benz recovered in Umthambeka Section, Tembisa, after it was hijacked from Clayville, Olifantsfontein.

“Investigations continue on all suspects and vehicles,” said Giblin.

All 10 suspects, aged 25 to 36, will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts soon, facing charges of possession of drugs, a hijacked motor vehicle, unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and shoplifting.
