Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld girls taught how to ‘Take Care’

Young girls need to encourage each other and stay in the loop about sexual health.

An initiative to encourage young girls to take care of themselves took place at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School on August 28.

The Mibeautifulschool: Take Care initiative, headed by Mandisa Jiyane, was launched at the school for girls in all the grades.

Jiyane visited the school and had a talk with the girls about sexual health, finance, self-image and personal well-being.

The girls won some prizes ponsored by Med-Park Local Choice Pharmacy.

This event was aimed at encouraging young girls to take care of themselves in celebration of Women’s Month.

The girls gathered at a classroom after school where Jiyane started the event by telling the girls that they needed to be aware of their self-image.

The girls took part in activities that taught them how to take care of themselves and encourage each other.

“Most of the time, especially in the times we live in, girls are always trying to bring each other down. We need to break that stigma. We need to stand together as girls who will grow to be women and encourage each other at all times,” said Jiyane.

“There is no better person to tell you that you are beautiful than yourself. We don’t need any kind of validation from anyone to feel confident or to know that we can achieve our goals and dreams.”

The girls gathered and listened to what Mandisa Jiyane had in store for them.

The girls later took part in an activity where they applied their knowledge about sexual health and they won some prizes.

The sponsors of the event, Med-Park Local Choice Pharmacy, supported the initiative by donating hygiene products, which the girls received on the day.

Upon request, Jiyane will be taking girls to the pharmacy where a nurse will teach them more about health.

She will be visiting more local schools, and if you would like her to visit your school, you can contact her on 074 728 8049 or jixjiyane@gmail.com.
