Solid slab fence to be built on both sides of railway line
The R334.1-million project will cover 13 railway stations from Leralla to Germiston.

A three-metre-high solid slab fence is to be built on both sides of the railway line running through Kempton Park.
According to Mike Waters MP, DA deputy chief whip and Lethabong constituency head, the project will span over two years and will cost R334.1-million.
Waters received the information as a reply to a parliamentary question. He asked the question after several residents raised concerns about safety. Most of the fence along the railway line is non-existent.
“The building of the fence will commence at Leralla Train Station, through Kempton Park and end at President Street in Germiston, spanning 13 train stations. The project will commence in the current financial year,” said Waters.
The project is a multi-year project spanning over two years, with a planned completion by 2020. This fence will be a solid slab fence type of three metres in height, covering both sides of the railway line.
“The DA welcomes the announcement as Government has an obligation not only to ensure that pedestrians are kept safe by preventing them from crossing railway lines other than at designated areas but also to ensure that railway lines are protected from vandalism. I will keep an eye on the matter to ensure that the fence is indeed built,” he added.
