Mother’s car stolen at Kruinsig’s spring dance

According to the principal of the school, Johan Kruger, a security guard was present.

A primary school spring dance turned sour when a mother’s car was stolen at Laerskool Kruinsig last week Wednesday. The vehicle was found in Tembisa two hours later, with damage of over R200 000.

“I remember telling my husband that I parked inside the school grounds, so it should be safe,” Esmé Pretorius told Express.

The Aston Manor mother was, however, shocked at the end of the evening to find that her charcoal Renault Sandero was missing.

“While waiting for our children, a friend and I were having a cold drink,” Pretorius recalled.

“My friend then said she was sure her child was waiting for her at her car, so we walked back to the parking area.”

“I did everything in my capacity to be safe but my car was still stolen,” Pretorius told Express. Although her car was recovered, it was not without extensive damage.

That was when Pretorius realised her car had been stolen.

“I was so shocked to think that someone took something that was mine. By parking inside the school, I thought I was safe. Where is it still safe?”

Surveillance footage showed someone exiting the school in her car at around 7.20pm but the driver could not be identified.

According to Pretorius, police knocked on her door two hours later, stating her car was found in Tembisa and a suspect had been apprehended.

According to the principal of the school, Johan Kruger, a security guard was present.

“Perhaps we should consider more security at the school. Unfortunately, these are the times we live in.”
