WATCH: Police find drugs worth R1.4-m hidden in washing machine at pub

Kempton Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit discovered drugs with a street value of R1.4 million on Tuesday morning.

The bust was the result of the unit’s stop-and-search operation in Kempton Park central business district.

“As the officers approached Panthers Pub on Kempton Road, people started running and police gave chase,” said Const Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson at Kempton Park SAPS.

“The police found one suspect in one of the rooms in the pub. The drug known as Cat was in plastic bags hidden inside an old washing machine.”

EMPD’s K9 Unit was also called to the scene. “The K9 Unit dogs searched the rest of the premises but couldn’t find anything else,” said Dipuo.

The suspect was arrested and detained at Kempton Park SAPS pending his appearance in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.

The drugs found weighed 692.05 grams.

The drugs weighing 692.05 grams are estimated to have a street value of R1.4 million.
