Crime in the Kempton Park Police Station precinct is at such high levels that the station ranks among the top 30 stations countrywide for various crimes.
This was revealed in the latest crime statistics for April 2017 to March 2018, which were released this week.
“It is unacceptable that residents of Kempton Park live in fear of their lives while criminals run rampant through the city,” said Michael Waters MP, DA deputy chief whip and Lethabong constituency head.

“While most police officers are doing what they can, their hands are tied. If you look at the international standard of one police officer for every 220 residents, the South African Police Service is about 44 000 officers short, which has repercussions at local level.
“A recent oversight inspection to Kempton Park Police Station has exposed a shortfall of 60 visible police officers and eight visible policing vehicles, while Norkem Park is short of 16 visible policing officers. The chronic lack of and proper training of police officers has a direct impact on the high levels of crime,” Waters said.
Kempton Park Police Station ranks in the top 30 for the following crimes:
Common robbery: number 13
Robbery with aggravating circumstances: number 11
Hijackings: number 8
Truck hijackings: number 2 (Heidelberg is tops)
Residential robberies: number 18
Non-residential robberies: number 10
Trio crimes (hijacking, residential and non-residential robberies): number 18
Property related crimes (burglary, car theft, theft from car, stock theft): number 19
Non-residential burglary: number 11
Theft out of motor vehicle: number 14
Norkem Park Police Station featured in the top 30 stations for two crimes:
Residential robbery: number 18
Residential burglary: number 25
