Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche expressed his disappointment in the metro for failing to submit a report on time so court proceedings regarding the eviction of Glen Marikana Informal Settlement residents could go ahead.
The case, heard in the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday, was postponed until November 19 as a direct result of the report only being handed in on September 3.

Terblanche said: “I was given the assurance by the department of human settlements the report would be ready on time, following numerous enquiries about it. It is concerning that the metro has no respect for the court, as it did not adhere to a court order to have the report available in 45 days.”
He said the metro was wasting taxpayers’ money by delaying the case due to their incompetence and lack of will to act on behalf of the Glen Marais community.
“I will ask council to do a full investigation on why the report was late and take action against officials responsible for this fruitless expenditure.
Part of the draft order issued by the court in May stated that the metro was supposed to draft a report, which included alternative accommodation, within 45 days of the draft order (May 21).
Because of the report being late, the court wasn’t given enough time to go through it. The applicants’ (owners of the land) attorneys were also not afforded enough time to respond to the report.
