‘Highway’ opens at Shangri-La Academy

A new ‘highway’ has children ecstatic to learn and play at Shangri-La Academy.

Shangri-La Academy opened a ‘highway’ at their school for the Grade R to Three learners to enjoy and educate themselves.Present at the opening were the school’s CEO Madeline Kruger, EMPD officers and Amy and Gus Fisher from Rapid Pools in Bonaero Park, who donated funds towards building the track.

“We want to thank the Fisher family and Rapid Pools for their major contribution towards building this track. This is not only space where our children can play, but they can also learn road safety measures. That is why we have the metro police here with us,” said principal Mark Rorich.

A few children from each grade were chosen to try out the new track. With the help of Superintendent Nico Maritz and Constable Josias Masilela of the metro police, the children were taught about stop signs, yield signs and a few other rules of the road while on the track.

“It is easier when things happen this way. When we teach our children the rules of the road now, they don’t have to worry when they are adults,” said Maritz.

The friendly EMPD mascot, Danny Cat, was excited to see the children and they were also excited to see him. The children had a fun time with him on the side of the track.

The ‘highway’ is named the Kruger Boulevard in honour of Kruger.

“The children will have a good time playing here and learning the rules of the road,” said Kruger.
