EMPD puts brakes on transgressing motorists
Some lawbreakers were released on warning, while others had to part with R1 000 for bail.
Between Saturday and Monday, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Officers came down like a ton of bricks on drunken drivers and speedsters in Brakpan, Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein.
More than 40 traffic fines, including driving without a driver’s licence and moving violations, were issued in Brakpan, said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the metro police.
Nine drivers were arrested on Main, Flaming and Kleinfontein roads for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Six motorists driving way over the speed limit (between 117 and 139km/h) were stopped on the R23 by Rangeview in Brakpan (80km/h zone).
On the R21 freeway at Olifantsfontein (120km/h zone) seven drivers were doing between 163 and 180km/h. On the R21 freeway at Pomona (120km/h zone) they were cornered clocking between 163 and 208km/h.
