New children’s home in Kempton Park needs volunteers
A Spartan day care founder is in need of volunteers for a new children’s home.
A day care, now expanding to a home of safety for children, is in need of volunteers.
Phindile Ndhlovu, the founder of Heavenly Kidz, decided to open a children’s home of safety after realising her passion for children at her day care.
Heavenly Kidz has been running since 2012 and has two branches, in Spartan and Kempton Park CBD. The day care centres both accommodate children from three months to six years old.
“I decided to open the day care because of my love for children. Now my passion for children has shown me I need to go beyond just the day care and open a children’s home,” said Ndhlovu.
“To open the children’s home officially with the social workers, I need to have people already available to look after the children. They can’t be sent to the home if there is no one there yet, so I need volunteers,” she added.
The children’s home can only be opened once there are enough volunteers. There are about 50 children, up to six years old, who are already in line to be placed at the home. Ndhlovu said she needed at least 10 volunteers at the home. The volunteers will work shifts, working from 6am to 6pm, and 6pm to 6am. The home will provide the children with food, education and a place to live.
“The volunteers will work for about three months before they start earning a salary. This will happen when social development is happy with us,” she continued.
Ndhlovu will also be looking for sponsors once the home is up and running.
